Cameroon physical features
Cameroon is located in Central Africa, bordering the Bight of Biafra, between Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.
Cameroon can be described as "Africa in miniature" because it exhibits all the major geographic features of the continent: mountains, desert, rain forest, savannah grassland, and ocean coastland.
Cameroon's coastal plain extends inland from the Gulf of Guinea (part of the Atlantic Ocean) to the edge of a plateau.
The low southern plateau, rising from the coastal plain is dominated by tropical rain forest.
In western Cameroon is an irregular chain of mountains, hills, and plateaus that extend from Mt. Cameroon almost to Lake Chad at the northern part of the country.
From the forested southern plateau the land rises northward to the rugged Adamawa highlands.
The northern savanna plain extends from the Adamawa to Lake Chad.
Yaounde is the capital. Douala is the Republic's commercial centre and major port.
Highest point is Mt. Cameroon rising 4095 meters above sea level.
